Vietnam is becoming a very popular travel destination. People chose Vietnam as their route for two main reasons: Vietnamese travel is a great opportunity for budget-oriented tourists, and when they come to Vietnam, they are welcomed by great hosts.
Airline tickets to Vietnam are a bargain if you are shopping. You can be in Ho Chi Minh City (known as Saigon for the Vietnamese in the south) from the west coast of the United States in less than 19 hours, and this includes a 1½ hour stop.
Domestic transport is cheap! An open bus ticket from Saigon to Hanoi costs less than $ 30.00 and you can see some of the greatest scenery you can imagine. Don't you want to go by bus? Comfortable trains and fast planes are available. A two-hour flight from Saigon to Hanoi costs around USD 100.00.
Tourist hotels are cheap and inviting. The staff are helpful and polite. You can travel from city to city without reservation and always find the right accommodation.
As mentioned earlier, the scenery is fabulous – misty mountains, green rice fields and sunny beaches. There are 5 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Vietnam, including Halong Bay. Bring 2 cameras – you will probably use one.
I left the best for last. Vietnamese cuisine is amazing. Most restaurants still receive daily fares from the local market. Fresh herbs, spices, vegetables and local meat are excellent meals. Seafood and chicken dishes are specialties, as are pork and beef. Vietnamese food is both light and flavorful. Oriental and slightly French influences create the right mix for the western palate.
Don't hesitate to put Vietnam in your travel plans. You won't be sorry and you won't forget.
